2001 bis 2006 Promotion am Zentrum für Sozialpolitik der Universität Bremen. 2003 bis 2006 Leiterin des Referats Chancengleichheit an der Hochschule für Künste Bremen. 2006 bis 2009 Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeit am Institut Arbeit und Wirtschaft der Universität Bremen, dort Koordination eines BMBF Forschungsverbundes. Seit 2009 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeit am Institut für Sozialforschung. In dieser Zeit verschiedene Lehrtätigkeiten. Seit 2020 Vertretungsprofessur für Inklusion und Arbeit: Gender und Diversity an der Technischen Universität Dortmund. Amtierende Sprecherin der Sektion Professionssoziologie in der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Soziologie. Koordination des Research Networks Sociology of Professions in der European Sociological Association. Vorstandsmitglied des Research Committee Sociology of Professional Groups in der International Sociological Asscociation.
